Things To Do On a “Me Day”: Taking Care of Yourself

Hey everyone!

I hope your Tuesday is going well so far.

In my last post 5 Steps to Emotionally Surviving Job Loss, one of my steps was the importance of taking care of yourself. Sometimes it is hard to make time for ourselves with the chaos of everyday life. We may not even really know how to just shut ourselves off to the world and to think about our own well-being.

To piggy back off of my previous post and help inspire you to make time for yourself, I wanted to share some ideas on things to do on a “me day” to take care of yourself physically and mentally.

Get 7-8 hours of sleep

You will want to have a full relaxing day, but you don’t want to spend it exhausted, do you? If you are like me, you tend to have trouble catching the recommended amount of sleep per day. Use your “me day” as an excuse rest and rejuvenate your whole body.

Wear something comfy

Whether that is staying in your pajamas all day or taking advantage of the athleasure trend that is sweeping the nation, find something that make you feel comfortable. It is much easier to relax when you aren’t constantly having to pull up your skinny jeans when you lean over.

Wake up with a warm drink

I feel the best way to describe a warm cup of coffee or tea is akin to a big warm hug. Perfect way to start the morning, I think! A warm cup of Joe or tea is not only delicious, but it is simply comforting. I personally prefer coffee over tea in the morning, but I would highly suggest having some green tea. It has so many health benefits as well as it gives you that boost of caffeine you might need in the morning.

Watch your favorite show

If you have been busy, chances are you are behind on your favorite show. Use your “me day” to enjoy a bit of Keeping up with the Kardashian’s or rewatching the seasons of One Tree Hill.

WARNING – To keep yourself from spending the whole day watching TV, give yourself a realistic time frame where you allow yourself to watch these show within a given period of time. Once that time period is over, turn it off and move on to your next activity.

Face and hair mask

Look on Pinterest to find some fun DIY face and hair masks. I recently tried a hair mask consisting of 1/2 avacado, 1 egg and 2 Tbsp olive oil. The protein in the mix helps to smooth and moisturize your hair. In my personal experience, my hair felt SUPER voluminous afterwards.

If you aren’t big on the DIY, try grabbing some inexpensive masks at Sephora. For my face, I recently used a Rose face mask by Sephora. It moisturizes and the rose extract offers face brightening properties.

Take a bath

When I want to relax, I love the idea of soaking in a nice warm bath. Add a few drops of lavender essential oils to help relax you or light your favorite scented candle. You can also set up your tablet or laptop and watch Netflix or Hulu while you drink a glass of wine. If you’d rather not watch more TV, read a good book you’ve been meaning to get to.

Mani/Pedi

I like painting my nails, but sometimes the thought of keeping the polish from smudging is more frustrating than it is worth. If this is you too, Mani/Pedi’s don’t have to involve painting your nails. Just stick with the other aspects of the experience: soak your hands and feet in warm water, use a nice foot and hand scrub, file your nails, and lotion up.

Lastly…

Take care of yourself!

Do what makes you happy and what relaxes you. Tackle your hobby that you usually don’t have time for, organize your closet into outfits, scour Pinterest, do DIY projects, clean, etc. This is your day and it is important that you make it about you. Take care of yourself and it will reflect in all aspects of your life.
